PROMOTION FOR RICHMOND 2NDS!!
Uni drop out comes good in promotion decider!
Jesmond 2 -3 Richmond 2's
With Richmond's run of eight successive wins and Jesmond's impressive recent form this was always going to be a close match.
Richmond started brightly and within 20mins had taken the lead after ex Loughborough 9th team striker Patch Brown opened the scoring after some good work from Billy Whizz. Jesmond responded quickly and equalized within 5 mins after a well worked penalty corner. The game was 1-1 at half-time and heading down wind and down hill Richmond pressured the Jesmond goal and Billy Whizz scored a well worked team goal.
Richmond then were sloppy and after some silly attempted cross field passes Jesmond countered quickly to level the game at 2-2. With less than 10 mins to go Patch Brown scored his second after good link up play with Gav Hill and Billy Whizz. The ex Loughborough student (who was told to leave Loughborough training as he was rapidly reducing the skill levels of the training session) clinched promotion for the mighty Richmond 2's!
MOM - Patch Brown - Big drop out but big game player!
DOD - Ste Lowther - Gilders tackled you!!!!
Richmond 2nd's 2 vs North Shields 1st's 1
The seconds turned up to this game carrying some serious form after winning every single game since Christmas and only conceding one goal. However this was to be a test of character - it was third in the league against top, and we needed a win.
After some poor directional skills from Mr Moffat we finally got to the pitch, and were given some naughty orange tops to play in.
The game started and we knew we were in for a tough one right from the word go. Graeme Clelland was linking up well with Tom Thoroughlygood who was making some ace runs on the right hand side and we were just lacking a few options in the final third.
However in the 8th minute, Neil Dodds picked the ball up after a loose clearance from the Sheilds defence and threaded it through to Patch Brown who calmly slotted the ball home past a helpless keeper.
For the next twenty minutes things were scrappy and brilliant defending from Jim King and Tony Potter denied and equaliser. While in goal, Moffat seemed to have everything covered.
Half time came and an inspirational team talk fired us up for the next thirty five minutes. We came out all guns blazing and Gav Hill was unlucky to be denied to add to our lead.
However our fortune did not last long, and North Sheilds were on top. They could and would have scored ten if the Richmond defence wasn't so class. The North shields equaliser came with around twelve minutes left to play. It seemed to be a scrappy affair and things then looked all over for Richmond.
North Shields carried on attacking but just could not penetrate the Richmond defence - Danny Porrit was making easy pickings of the
scallywags. The next bit of play seemed to be a stroke of genius. Can't really remember what happened, but I think Baggers picked it up and made a fantastic run down the left hand side and at the last minute, used his reverse stick to square the ball to Patch Brown, who shrugged a defender off his back and slapped the ball over the keeper and into the net.
Some great hustling from Gareth made another opportunity for Patch to make it three but it just skimmed the post. For the last ten minutes North Sheilds never seemed to shut up. I am sure that if Watson had any cards he would have brandished them. North Shields looked like they were going to equalise but the whistle finally came and North Shields were still chirping on to the umpires when we left. One of the players threw his stick onto the roof to show his frustration, not the brightest thing to do when the roof was 15feet high.
Another win for the 2nd's, which makes us 2nd in the league. Next week an easy one against Furness at home.
MOM - Patch Brown, 2 goals
DOD - Gareth, a quiet one this week?
Richmond 2nd's 6 vs Martyn Furness 0
After last week's tough game, many thought this would be a walk in the park. We started well and were seriously on top. Patch should have opened up the scoring but had two dreadful misses in the first 10minutes.
Gav Hill, Dan Smith and Thorogood were amazing on the right hand side and Richmond won loads of short corners! How we didn't score
any more never ceases to amaze me.
Another win for the mighty second team - promotion is looking good. Next week, against those bunch of thugs South Shields. I just hope coconut head isn't too biased and that they invite us back for the 9 course buffet!
MOM - Gareth 3 goals Seaborne
DOD - Patch, i can't finish for shit some days
Richmond 2 XI 3 Durham City 3 XI 2 9 Feb 2008
Richmond remain in the promotion hunt after another three points.
It was the turn of Durham City 3's to come to the theatre of dreams this weekend as Richmond 2's hoped their recent run of good form would continue.
It was a glorious sunny day and the home team started brightly and pushed Durham City back. It wasn't long before Richmond took a deserved lead through a well taken finish by Luke Seaborne.
Tom Thorogood was a constant threat down the right hand side and enjoyed time and space as he terrorised the Durham City left back. Richmond continued to press and forced a penalty corner which Gareth Seaborne finished after a fine save from the keeper.
Durham played far better in the second half and pushed forward and created a couple of very good chances. This left holes in the Durham City defence and a quick break between Gavin Hill and Tom T'gud left the Durham City keeper helpless ad Gav Hill smashed it in to the bottom corner. Patch Brown missed his 8th golden opportunity to score late on and Durham City got a late consolation goal.
Final result RHC 3-1 DCHC
MOM - Tom T'gud a menace down the right.
DOD - Bagley - playing sandcastles with his missus oh dear oh dear!
Richmond 2’s pip local rivals in local battle 12.01.08
Richmond 2’s played Richmond 3’s on Saturday in what always proves to be an interesting affair. It was a game dominated by strong defending and excellent goalkeeping. With Richmond 2’s having the better of the early exchanges it was no surprise when Jonny Partenheimer opened the scoring to put the 2’s in the lead at half time.
The underdogs (Richmond 3’s!) came out in the second half much stronger and pressed the Richmond 2’s goal. Some strong defending by James King and Tony Potter in central positions meant the 2’s held on to grab all three points in what was a rather dull game.
Well done to Stuart Watson and Andrew Slade who umpired the game very well and ensured temperaments remained calm.
MOM – Tom Thoroughood played well for the 3’s
DOD – Tim Bray
Medics left battered bruised and well beaten 19/01/08
The one nil score line didn’t reflect how well Richmond 2’s played and this was a key fixture that we felt had to be a must win game. Richmond bombarded the medic’s goal and were only rewarded 60 mins in when Patrick Brown calmly slotted the ball past a helpless medics keeper.
Medics did have chances of their own but found the Richmond defence in superb form in particular James King who made a number of crunching tackles some legal some not. He proved a rock from start to finish. Although we have been poor against the uni sides this year this was an excellent display in which we deserved all three points. Well done boys!
MOM – James King
DOD – Medics umpire oh dear oh dear
Richmond 2’s hit Norton for Eight 26/01/08
Richmond 2’s turned up at Norton with out conceding a goal in 2008 and hoped they could continue in this rich vein of form. The travelling team were rampant and although there were too many goals to go in to detail, it was Graeme Clelland who got the rout started with a clean strike that wrong footed the Norton keeper. Gareth Seaborne completed a fine hat-rick with a superbly taken solo goal.
This was another fine performance and a another clean sheet
Scorers : G seaborne x 3, G clelland, J Baggley, G Hill, J Partenheimer. P Brown
MOM : D Smith Top work at left back
DOD : Patch Brown - do not make bets with the big boys
Seaborne hits three again and Richmond thrash Redcar. 02.02/08
It was Redcar’s turn to feel the power of Richmond 2’s and the home team were again on top form. On a cold and crisp day the 2’s took an early lead through a well worked move down the left hand side and Jonathan Bagley finished rather fortunately as the keeper kicked it in to his own net.
We then sat back and had a sloppy period where we let Redcar come back in to the game but raised the effort and commitment in the second half and a Gareth Seabone hat-trick for the second time in as many weeks and a second from Johnathan Bagley put the result in no doubt at all. Another clean sheet and an excellent offensive display.
MOM – Gareth didn’t give him MOM last week despite a hat-trick so have it this week.
DOD – I am feeling brave – Danny Porritt nice air shot!
Richmond hit for seven in defensive horror!
Richmond travelled to North St Georges 2nd team expecting a hard game and that proved to be the case. Although the away team started well with good link up play between Tom Thorogood and Patrick Brown the home team settled down to a good pattern of play and dominated the rest of the game. Richmond went in at half time two nil down but a barrage of goals from NSG humiliated Richmond in to their heaviest defeat for 4 years and the home team finally went in seven nil winners.
MOM - Tom T'Gud - plenty of running and effort
DOD - Gareth Seaborne - What's on TV?
Eight goal epic ends all square
Richmond 2's visitors were at the high flying Jesmond this week in what was always going to be a difficult task. Richmond played some of their finest Hockey of the season and took a deserved early lead when Luke Seaborne finished calmly in a crowded 'D'. Jesmond to their credit came back with immediate effect and scored a well taken goal which left the Richmond Keeper with no chance. With both teams playing good Hockey in a well spirited game it was no surprise that at half time it was one each.
Richmond played some lovely hockey in the second half with some excellent link up play between Neil Dodds and Gareth Seaborne in the middle of the park. Richmond scored twice more though Gavin Hill but Jesmond also scored twice in quick succession to take the game to three each. Jesmond then scored in the last five minutes only for Gavin Hill to complete a hat-trick to finish the game four all.
MOM - Jim King - a heroic performance at centre back.
DOD - Jonny - no mates
Next week - Away to North St Georges - The university that produced such intellectuals as Ian Christie
Due a big game- Patrick Brown on his return to the second team we expect goals.
17th Nov Redcar v Richmond 2nds
Richmond go top in bruising encounter.
Richmond 2's travelled to a play a very physical Redcar team on Saturday in what was always going to be a tough test for the youthful away side. The game started very evenly with both teams having early chances but the defences remained relatively solid. Richmond pressed in the later part of the half and pressured the Redcar 'D' and gained a penalty corner in which Johnny Partenhiemer expertly dispatched with confidence and conviction.
Redcar played the long ball game to good effect in the second half and their pressure was rewarded with a goal from close range. The Richmond keeper Dave Moffitt was excellent throughout and pulled off some match winning saves. Both teams had chances but it was the Richmond stand in skipper Graeme Clelland who slotted a chance from the tightest of angles to win the game for the away side.
A really good team effort in which we tackled well but a special mention to Jim King who despite carrying an injury was colossal from start to finish.
MOM- Jim King/ Dave Moffitt- Both solid.
DOD- Andy Slade for turning up late!
Next week,
Home to Jesmond
Due a big game - Johnny P - moved from 3's to 2's and with his debut goal we can expect more to follow
The one to watch - David Gildroy's right foot. He uses it more than his stick.
10 th November Richmond 2nds 5 Norton 1
Richmond win in heated battle
Norton were the visitors on a cold Saturday afternoon. Richmond started lively and forced an early goal when Michael Wells finished off a well worked move down the right. The remainder of the first half was scrappy, both Richmond & Norton both saw a player sent off as there was a scuffle in the middle of the park.
The second half saw a much improved Richmond side and, with 'Billy Whizz' pulling the strings in centre midfield, Richmond dominated both possession and chances on goal. Jonathan Bagley scored two well taken goals and Patrick Brown and Gavin Hill both found themselves on the score sheet as Richmond finished 5 - 1 winners.
MOM – Billy Whizz – Composure and class throughout
DOD – Graeme Clelland
– First yellow card of the season.Next week away @ Redcar.
The one to watch: The Redcar bosher - a lethal weapon at short corners.
Due a big game: Gareth Seaborne hasn’t scored in his last two outings.
Saturday 3November
NOT GOOD!!!!! Richmond 2ndXI v Newcastle University 4ths
Richmond entertained Newcastle University 4th team this Saturday on a crisp November afternoon. Richmond were poor from start to finish and never gathered any composure on the ball. It didn't surprise the capacity crowd (32) when Newcastle took a deserved lead. They continued to dominate the play and richmond went in at half-time two nil down.
Things didn't get much better in the second half and Richmond got the spanking they deserved when the final whistle was blown - A heavy five nil defeat.
Well done to Newcastle Uni who looked a sharp side.
MOM - S Watson/ A Slade - a competent umpiring display
DOD - The whole Richmond 2nd team. A dismal effort!
Next week home to Norton
The one to watch: no points so far but they always seem to get stronger at this time of the year.
Due a big game: Tom Hodgson showed true class for the 1st XI last week away at Urmeston. Can unlock tight defences.
Marton Furness 3's Vrs Richmond 2's
Richmond Undefeated but uninspired! Richmond's undefeated run continued against a much improved Furness team. The away team started the brighter, dominating the early period of play. Furness started slowly and Richmond capitalised on their territorial advantage by pressing in to the opponents circle and Graeme Clelland scored from short range to finish a well worked move. MOM Gavin Hill was a constant threat and the Furness defence had neither the pace nor the skill to get anywhere near the young Richmond midfielder. Richmond went in at half time 2 nil up after Gareth Seaborne continued his goal scoring form by adding another from an angled deflection that raced past a helpless keeper.
Richmond then sat back and let the home side dominate long spells of the second half. Richmond were sloppy in possession and gifted Furness their opening goal. It could have been much worse for the Richmond side had it not been for a wonderful save in the last two minutes from keeper Dave Moffit. Richmond held on to gain their second win of the season but one feels we will need to improve dramatically if we are to compete with the Big boys of North St Georges and Jesmond.
MOM = Gavin Hill
DOD= Wellsy
Richmond 2nd XI v South Shields
A GAME OF TWO HALVES, TWO UMPIRES (NEUTRAL) AND ELEVEN MOANING GEORDIES!!!!
Richmond had the pleasure of entertaining South Shields on a fine Saturday morning. It was an awkward game in which Richmond stared poorly and, come half time, were deservedly 2-1 behind. Although the South Shields midfield resemble more of a front row of a rugby pack than a dynamic hockey midfield they did their job and pressured the Richmond defence well. We took time to wake up and realise we were in a game but when we did we produced some nice hockey and dominated the second half.
A barrage of goals came in the second half, too many to mention individually but Dan Smith was at the heart of everything that Richmond did well and gained a MOM on his return. An excellent three points with a slight improvement but only a 6 out of 10. We can and will do better. A special thanks to John Sale and the two umpires, Will Jones and Matthew 'Adequate' Brown, for controlling a difficult game.
MOM - Dan Smith - Brilliant.
DOD- Baggers - desperate for a mention, so next week don't get so pissed on the Friday night that you can only manage 40mins of pitch time!
