Marton Furness turned up at Richmond today expecting another lack-lustre performance from the 3rd’s. They got something else entirely.
We started brightly, with chances at both ends coming thick and fast. Both teams had the opportunity to break the deadlock but it wasn’t until 10 minutes before half time and a cross field pass from Tim Bray to Tom Thorogood and a slap into the “D”, set up Wellsy to provide the reverse stick finish (helped along by the left pad of the keeper). Then two minutes later, with pretty much the same build up play, Wellsy hit the same shot, from the same spot, (but a little sweeter) which left Richmond 2-0 up at half time. Yet again Windy showed his Leadership qualities at half-time, which set the foundations for the trashing Furness received in the second-half.
Marton Furness came out with added desire for the win, only to be quashed by an immense performance by Fish and Windy (yet again) at the back. Fish had their rather Heskey-like striker in his back pocket all the way through and Windy just picked up the pieces.. Andy Johnson struck the first blow in the second half, with a tap in from some good Richmond possession.
The second blow was delivered by a textbook short corner, courtesy of Martin Brown and a third from Wellsy to round off his hat-trick, thanks to a defensive blunder by the Marton Furness defence. Richmond were in the driving seat from then on, Josh Potts grabbed another late on and some great work in the middle from Tom Thorogood and Wellsy just capped off a very good Richmond performance. We all need our rest - tomorrow Medics are coming down……..could be an interesting encounter!
Richmond 3rds 6-0 Marton Furness 4ths
M.O.T.M Wellsy - Nice hat-trick, why can’t he perform like this every week??
D.O.T.D Tim “Pube Head” Bray - Why does no-one like my aerials??

Richmond 3rd’s 0-2 Newcastle Medics
Not much to say about today’s performance against Medics, even though we played better than yesterday! Anyway, after having a bit of trouble with the players we were allowed to use, we finally pushed back with only 11 men, just.
Yet again we started well (I can see a pattern evolving), got men behind the ball and after some good end to end stuff let in a sloppy goal just before half-time. Poor end to a fairly good half. Windy’s usual morale boosting team talk was to be honest, crap.
So we entered the second half in high spirits……but put up a good fight anyway, battled hard, used the wide men and played the sort of Hockey we have been trying to encourage this season, but it came to no effect as we constantly were running into the doctors across the field. It became a bit frustrating sat out on the wing as it may have seemed to other people as well, we just couldn’t break the Medics, however hard we tried.
Wellsy missed 2 reverse stick efforts, Teeny put 1 shortie wide and another onto the keeper’s pads. Then again, after pushing too far forward we were caught on the break and they got another, again sloppy, but some good build up play.
Then the moment of the match arrived, not a goal, an on-the-line block or a full field aerial (not through lack of trying *coughs* Pube Head *coughs*) but a ferocious lumberjack challenge by Teeny Brown, that could have killed the attacked was it not for his stick. This was followed by confrontations, a yellow card, raised voices and some good and bad (Dennis) team banter. So today’s highlight was not the score line, or some extremely good performances but a challenge that will be remembered as the challenge that was “heard across the world”.
2-0 the game ended although medics nearly ended up going home with one less player than they came with.
M.O.T.M: Teeny Brown – Dubbed the 3rd team “Axe-man”
D.O.T.D: Tim “Pube Head” Bray – The bad aerials struck for the second game in a row, Just Stop It
